Anything is possible

Nija Charles

Nija Charles (21) is one of the reasons a lot of artists have a successful album, she begun making music in her college dorm room. Charles wrote songs for a lot of celebrities like Cardi B and Beyonce. She is a brilliant songwriter and producer, some of her works include: “Ring” and “I do” (Cardi B). As well as “LoveHappy” and “Heard about us” (The Carters). It’s crazy because my favorite artists are now the people I work with, said Charles in an interview with ABC news, 2 years ago I was in their concerts and now I’m in the studio with them. What’s most appealing in all of this is that she is working in an industry that is mostly dominated by males and she is already leaving footsteps of inspiration for other females. Nija’s talent but mostly her diligence teaches that it is never too early to dream and that if you make time and effort into  what you want, the results will be, not only something to be proud of, but also a source, a source of inspiration for those watching. Do you also think effort beats talent?

Some of the things that shaped me

Life can be a strict teacher; random thoughts in my room.

If life never treated me like a kid back when I was , why should I think like one? I remember the days of naivety, they are left far, far behind. There was a call to grow, a call to awaken, before I could even detach from the heat of my mother’s hugs, her affection. I was, in fact, what most would call an awkward child, an introvert, a loner, quiet and also an “old soul” at times. I was friendly but I always think beyond my age, at least that’s what they said. Constantly changing, growing and learning. Always feeling like I belong to some place, never the current one. Why do life teach some of us the hard way when, on the other side, those of our age are enjoying what most would call “L’âge de la folie” the age of madness in french, think of crazy teens when you say it. Those days when love gets confused with the influence of hormones, those days when peer pressure shows up. Random fact: I fell in love a few times but I’ve only loved once. And I learned a lot from it,  I’ve only acknowledged and reciprocated love to or with a specific person. To me, Ariana Grande’s thank u next sums up in one person, instead of “one taught me love, one taught me patience” I’d say he taught me love, he taught me patience. Fortunately, due to different life circumstances and lack of commitment, we had to move on from each other. And yes I did say fortunately because everything happens for a reason. I’m not saying I haven’t done anything stupid but I don’t do things “just because” or because I think it’s trendy. It’s crazy how, the opportunity came up many times (I was much younger) and I turn it down, everytime. What opportunity? you ask, I’m talking about the opportunity to do something that could affect my life down the line, the opportunity to be influenced the wrong way, even though no one was watching. I’ve made mistakes, learned from them. And the good things I’ve done, I try to hide them, at least as much as I can. Oh I remember during a specific period of my life, I could be dating “the cutest” guy in school whom I’ve been enamored with for a long time, I would bump into him even outside of school sometimes, turns out he also liked me because he made it loud and clear. When the time arrived to confess, I sadly said no because I already valued a brain and a heart, especially a heart ,over a pretty face, not like I didn’t want him but feelings are nothing compared to one’s pride (in a good way) I didn’t want to do something just because it was cool or cute,  and I couldn’t care less about his beauty, because I also possess beauty and I get to choose because even those with bad intentions desire a beautiful woman. I’ve learned a lot, I’m aware I was not the only one with problems, but at times I felt like life forgot my age due to the amount of my trials, I had to experience sickness and almost every other nightmare of an adolescent all at once, had to experience betrayal, had to learn how good people are at faking loyalty, many humiliating moments, especially 4 years ago. But I couldn’t be more grateful, after all, the universe has my best interest in mind…

7 Promises of God in times of distress.

What to remember

“My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” (psalm 22:1)

This is the prayer of many, a lot of people get despaired thinking that God is not near. Although it is normal to get sad, making a habit out of it can affect a person in many ways. We are tripartite and anguish can touch all three areas of our truth. Here are 7 promises of God in those times you don’t know what to do.

7.Psalm 34:15The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry

God is as powerful as loving, he is omniscient so nothing can escape his sight. Whatever you go through, just know that God is only one prayer away. It doesn’t have to be long, you don’t have to be loud neither, just pray and trust him wherever you are.

6.Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me”

Not even one of your problems is too small for him to notice, God will be with you wherever you go. Just stay in his presence and do his will. A lot of times,  God allows something to happen to someone because they are not in his will. Yes, we all sin and repent. But practicing a sin over and over or being connected to something that does not please God, can open a door to an addiction of that sin(idolatry) idolatry is not always about something you can touch, idolatry is allowing something  or someone to take God’s place in your life, heart, mind etc.. Idolatry could be: Doubts; when you allow your overthinking or lack of trust to make you forget what God said he can do in your life. It could be someone you spend all your time with, without thinking of spending some time with God. Therefore, get right with God, surrender your needs and he will take care of them.

5.Jonah 2:1-2 “In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry”

God is a spirit being, that means you can find him anywhere. You’d be surprised at the wonders he can do with your life. He is just waiting for you to call.

4.Proverbs 23: 18There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off

God has a plan a purpose for your pain, his word is pure and his promises never fail. Trust him and you will experience a different kind of peace.

3.But as it is written:

“Eye has not seen, hear has not heard, nor entered in the heart of man, the things God has prepared for those who love him”- 1 corinthians 2:9

This is probably one of my favorites because it shows that God cares enough to fulfill our needs beyond our plans and anything we have imagined for ourselves. God knows what’s good for us.

2.Ephesians 5:12-13

‘’For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes you may be able to stand your ground.”

Anyone who is a true believer and has an intimate relationship with God, will be persecuted. So you may be facing struggles of any kind right now, but just know that the battle is not yours, just stay in God’s presence, stay in his will and he will accomplish all his promises.

1.Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future”

As long as you surrender everything to God, smallest to greatest. You can remain still because he loves you and wants what’s good for you.

God is never late, never far, never busy. God is willing to replace your sadness with joy. As long as you remain in his will. Every pain has a purpose, learn the lesson and keep trusting God.

Trust issues: Even in education

How college bribery scandal causes trust issues in students.

You are young, ambitious and are willing to work hard for your dreams, although you know you will face many obstacles, you know it’s up to you to make your dreams come true. So you think all the sleepless nights are worth it. Passing a test is a big prize for you. And since you’re aware that, for the most part, admission is competition, you work twice as hard. But wouldn’t it be fine if everyone did the same? Because after all, it’s only fair. Well not everyone see it that way …

Fifty people were charged due to bribery in school, several parents got caught bribing school coaches and administrators so that their child can make it to the top. A lot of students have been on the recruited athletes list without having the required ability, sad.

Although the investigation does not end here, the fact that this was even possible, the fact that administrators agreed. It’s kind of hard to know other ways real hard working students are being affected, because for every non-qualified but rich student added to a list. A real hard-working but not as successful student was not chosen. Because there is competition in school as well. According to bloomberg news, parents paid a total of $25 million to coaches and test administrators from 2011 to 2018. What’s left for the talented students with no sketchy activities? Since the other parents already have the winning seat, this is causing a lot of doubts. What can an average young and ambitious person do? Also, how do we know there aren’t other things being done as far as their grades and test results? Because I’m sure there can’t be a place for two. And if the dishonest parents bought it, what can the average do?

In conclusion, the truth always come out. Since we’re aware what is going on now, maybe justice will be in favor of the genuinely talented students, and one should never give up on their dreams because of unfair schemes. Truth  can never be hidden.

Once her mind is set,

Once her pride is held,

She will not back down,

no need to bet.

Her strength can move mountains,

Yet her love is deeper than a fountain,

In the midst of obstacles,

You will have her hand to hold.

She is bold,

She knows her worth,

Her heart is gold,

She is a whole.

She fights,

She conquers,

But most importantly,

She cherishes…

As we are getting ready for spring, you should be mindful of your inner beauty. It is a time to let go of the past and start believing in yourself. A time to not be resistant to change.  Just like the flowers bloom, you should let your reality reflect your life. Because  your mistakes and doubts don’t reveal who you are. Remaining stagnant is not worth it, it’s just another step backwards. You should always look forward to improve your personal growth. Reflect on your healing and be careful of your thoughts. So how exactly can you flourish with spring?

As we are getting ready for spring, you should be mindful of your inner beauty. It is a time to let go of the past and start believing in yourself. A time to not be resistant to change.  Just like the flowers bloom, you should let your reality reflect your life. Because  your mistakes and doubts don’t reveal who you are. Remaining stagnant is not worth it, it’s just another step backwards. You should always look forward to improve your personal growth. Reflect on your healing and be careful of your thoughts. So how exactly can you flourish with spring?

Speak kind words to yourself: You deserve the kindness you give to others. And whatever you think you need from someone else, you should give to yourself first. You will only get respect from others if you are aware that you owe it to yourself.

Be patient and give yourself time: Changing the things you want to change about yourself won’t happen overnight, so don’t give yourself a deadline, move forward while you carefully think of ways you can improve.

Find fulfillment in your own journey: Life can be a rollercoaster so make sure you enjoy the ride. Every setback is a lesson and what may appear as a failure is simply an opportunity to grow. Don’t let anybody bring you down when they don’t understand your path, be proud of every single step you take.

Avoid negative people: Stay away from anyone who disturbs your peace. Anyone who doesn’t value growth, because negative people are really good at making others doubt themselves.

Focus on the goals you have set for yourself: Keep improving day by day. And don’t focus too much on your mistakes, remind yourself of your growth instead.

In fine, let this season be a season of renewal and thoughtfulness keep yourself away from anything sketchy and make improvement and positivity your main focus. Your future self will thank you.

Before you think this post is made to undervalue some sort of identity or is pure bias to Gen X let me tell you it’s only focusing on what we all  have left, and we can’t make it without each other.

“You will attract the younger generation and they might well prove tougher than the older generation. What we are trying to do is to look at the future and see what we can do to bring some stability back to people’s lives.” Ian Botham

The millennial generation or the Y generation (people born between late 70’s and the early 2000’s) are known as the selfish and lazy generation. But millenials are also the most open-minded generation, and with that a lot of change can be made in our communities. Not to mention the “me generation” or the “baby boomers”  have done a lot of things we all have to deal with. And one of those things is environmental problems caused by cigarettes. Like climate change, sickness, deforestation and toxic waste. The use of cigarettes have been there long time ago, but it was rudimentary, cigarettes did not become popular until the middle stage of generation X. But what do we have as millenials? How can we progress?

Below is a list of positive things we do as  millennials and how they can help all of us.

1. Education: 2 in 5 millennials are college graduates: The process of education produces a higher social engagement and more participation in rallies especially those intended to make a change in a small community. Also, it produces a lot of community services.

2.Technology: This one is probably the top reason millenials are not trusted by our communities but with the help of technology, communication is easier, various of diseases can be analyzed and cured and new machines can be a good help for physical therapy.

3.Interactions and languages: More than 50% of millennials are bilingual this can help people engage more and learn other cultures.

4.Awareness: Millennials bring more awareness towards injustice, even though it takes a lot of effort but our generation is more vocal when it comes to things that are taboo in our community. They do this by participating in important conversations, a school project or even a hashtag. Although a lot of people take advantage of hashtags but it brings awareness in our community since social media is already a big part of our lives.

5.Purpose: Contrary to baby boomers, millenials are the ones who taught all of us that there is something much more than living for gain. A lot of millenials are working towards inner healing like: trauma, anxiety, depression, insecurity and any other type of fear. We also emphasize body positivity and confidence. Although social media itself can be an obstacle towards achieving that goal, but our generation brings a lot of positivity towards contentment.

In fine, we are still acknowledging a lot of issues even though we face many others but they say that the first step to change something is being conscious of it. So does that mean there is hope for generation Z? It’s up to us…

6 ways you can get better

Your wounds are not your fault but your recovery is definitely your responsibility.

1. Say positive affirmations to yourself

Reminding yourself of your precious value always works. Tell yourself things such as “everything will work out for my good’’ and  “the tools I need to thrive are in my possession”. This will alleviate your worry and remind you that it will be okay. Your journey is unique and will flourish as it should.

2. Go for a walk

It improves your mood and energy.

3. Meditate

Since there are different teachings of meditation, find the one that’s suitable for you and use it often.

4. Change your space

Maybe add a new  bed sheet? How about that DIY decor you have on your saved lists? try it ! Trying new things keeps your mind busy from negativity. You could even write down positive affirmations and put them on your mirror.

5. Vent

Talk to a trusted friend. And tell them exactly how you feel, they may come up with something that can help. Don’t be anxious,  a true friend will never see you as a burden they will take time to listen to you and cheer you up as much as they can.

6. Don’t worry

No matter what situation you are in, it will change. That’s why you should embrace good times and take advantage of your happy days. Bad situations will also change, so learn from them and don’t take them too seriously. Eventually, it will get better.
